Seeing favorite fiction made into film is not always a delight

We’ve all had the experience of feeling disappointed when the film version of a favorite book doesn’t measure up. ¶ My most vivid memory of such a letdown came after seeing Baz Luhrmann’s 2013 “The Great Gatsby.” All wrong. ¶ More recently, Agnieszka Holland’s “Spoor,” an adaptation of Olga Tokarczuk’s 2018 International Man Booker Prize-winning “Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead,” didn’t cut it for me.
